UNITED FOOTBALL LEAGUE
SEASON ONE COMPLETE...CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FRIDAY NOON SAM BOYD STADIUM LAS VEGAS !
THIS WAS GOOD FOOTBALL !
FLORIDA 6-0 PLAYS LAS VEGAS 4-2 FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP !
THE LEAGUE PLANS TO RETURN IN 2010 WITH 8 TEAMS AND THIS REPORTERS SUPPORT !
The two CHAMPIONSHIP teams have played two close games and should provide a great matchup on friday.
As a fan and reporter I can tell you this is good football in a great facility unlike the college team and ex college coach that played here would have you believe.
Friday night past with the Las Vegas Locomotives blowing out the New York Sentinels 41-7 in the regualr season finale, it was not a great matchup, but only on one side ! On the first series New York went 3 and out ...Las Vegas blocked the punt and ran it in for a touchdown and the game was over at 13.11 of the first period. In the third period New Yorks punt returner fumbled rather than fair catching...they replaced him, the replacement rather than fair catching at the 22 stepped away from the punt...Las Vegas downed the ball on the one and New York called time out in a 31-0 game, came back, fumbled the ball and Las Vegas scored again in an unbelievable sequence of events. The championship game friday will match better teams and great coaching to prevent such a senario. In a strange moment in the third quarter a New York player was injured, attended to and both teams came onto the field in a semi circle, kneeled and prayed...the player Noah Herron gave the thumbs up on the stretcher on the way off showing some class and humanity by everyone in a scene never played out before, turning a negative into a big plus...made my day !
Lots of elements this night to make the event special not the least of which is the way the leauge treats the press. FIRST CLASS
The referee, Jon Bible, former NFL referee and nationally recognized multi sport official, author, assignor, bowl referee and all around good guy working the white hat...no problems in this area. Head linesman ( person ) Teri Valenti first female to work pro football. Paul Maguire one of the tv announcers working the game and 13,000 enjoying the game on a perfect night prepping for the championship game Friday.
We in Las Vegas remain so fortunate to have ths truly outstanding event in our city...I have seen 25 years of UNLV football, the CFL, the XFL and college bowl games here ...UFL by far the best in every way !
