April 14, 2014 (Las Vegas, NV) – The Las Vegas Philharmonic will bid ‘au revoir’ to its 2013-14 season with a musical journey through the ‘city of light’ with a concert called “Paris, Je T’aime” on Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m. at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The Minnesota Orchestra’s Principal Conductor, Pops & Presentations, Sarah Hicks, will conduct the concert, the last of the love-themed season in Reynolds Hall.
Debussy’s Claire de Lune, Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Bizet’s Farandole from L’Arlesienne, selections from Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera and music from classic French films The Umbrella of Cherbourg and The Windmills of Your Mind are amongst the works to be performed. Accordionist Patrick Harison will add Gallic flair joining the orchestra for works including Indifference and Passion by Joseph Colombo and Tony Muréna. Providing a musical “last tango in Paris,” Las Vegas Philharmonic concertmaster De Ann Letourneau will be the featured soloist in John Williams’ arrangement of Por una cabeza.
Conductor Sarah Hicks took on her Minnesota Orchestra post in October of 2009. In addition to conducting most of the Pops concerts and Special Presentations she has created new Pops productions while also heading the innovative classical series, "Inside the Classics.” Ms. Hicks concurrently holds the position of Staff Conductor of the Curtis Institute of Music. Throughout her career she has collaborated with diverse artists, from Jamie Laredo and Hilary Hahn to Josh Groban and Smokey Robinson. During the summer of 2011 she performed on a two-month tour with Sting conducting on the final leg of his Symphonicities Tour.
“Paris, Je T’aime” is the final concert of the Las Vegas Philharmonic’s 2013-14 concert season and completes the orchestra’s second full season as a resident company of The Smith Center. Details of the 2014-15 season will be announced on April 21st and the first concert of the new season will take place on Saturday, September 27th.
“This season was themed ‘Love Your Las Vegas Philharmonic’ and together with our affectionate audiences, we have embarked on 10 wonderful musical explorations,” says President & CEO Jeri Crawford. “Season finale concerts are always abuzz with additional excitement and this French program is a joyous way to conclude the current season with beautiful ballads and romantic melodies.”
