Boy did this have my name all over it !
In years past there was a Las Vegas music festival, 14 day training session for you classical musicians, it died. It was replaced by this! OH BOY !
I just barely learned of it with a one inch blurb in the paper.
Started with a Friday night faculty concert at the perfect Doc Rando Recital Hall on UNLV campus. Lots of Mozart and Beethoven, too much piano for me but well chosen well played music highlited by Weiwei Le violin, Fantasy on Bizet's Carmen, Op 25, among my favorites. She is on staff at UNLV and can play for me any time, love the violin. 100 A+
This was followed by short student selections on Saturday night, 15 in all and more Sunday afternoon which I am sorry I missed. They concluded with 12 cellos doing a 94 second feature of the Wabash Cannonball. Absolutely brilliant, creative and entertaining for me, again tons of Mozart string and piano concertos and I didn't find any sour notes. So nice to see hope in the world with young people presenting themselves in such a positive way, I liked how the young men steeped aside and let the young ladies exit in front of them. Thanks a ton, needless to say both shows started on time. 99 A+. Thank you. http://www.greenvalleychambermusic.org./
Sunday afternoon I ruined my weekend with Nabila, Middle Eastern Music from the World Vibration series at the Winchester Cultural Center in Las Vegas. No pluses here, started 9 minutes late, 59 minutes of noise, unprepared, unrehearsed twang for 41 people. This was the worst thing I have seen since renewing my revues, O... NOTHING. Too bad some of these shows at Winchester are A's.
