3 FEBRUARY 1959 THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED

3 FEBRUARY 2008 A SUPER DAY FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT WRITER

For many years (40) I was a real sports fan and sportscaster.....the teams went on strike, they went on steriods, they fight each other and their fans, they act like criminals shooting security guards, they throw baseballs at each others heads and run out of the bullpen to skirmish and they organize dog fights. I am out of the picture, I don't watch, I don't bet, I don't use the products sponsering their broadcasts and I don't care....why don't you join me!

That said 3 February a SUPER day for me !

MUSIC AT THE MUSEUM....Inaugural Concert at the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas.....what a deal this was...chamber music, all Beethoven, UNLV faculty players, all first class, 4 pieces, violin, viola, cello and highlited by playing on one of Liberace's classic pianos. OH Boy ! Nice little theatre and 35 of us had a grand time, a drawing for free tickets and I win two for Mama Mia tonight, I go.

Liberace museum a great treasure in our great city so much to see and do, they are trying to keep up the pace and do new things, 21 years now after the death of the showman. More chamber stuff planned here and I guarantee it to be first class like this one. Started on time 99 A+

NEVEDA CHAMBER SYMPHONY...Unfortunately this group picked this date (bad judgment in itself, just stupid for anybody to schedule anything on this date) a year ago for the overlapping the time of the Liberace show. However I zipped over to the excellent Flamingo Library theatre for the second half. 13 strings 19 pieces how could this be bad? It wasn't...it was childrens day and on the stage they are tolerable, but lots of running thru the aisles unsupervised as usual. Should not there be qualifications for parenthood other than fertility ? Anyway bringing the kids here was a start ! Nice second half show....classical stuff well played with some of kids doing narration intros...good idea.....some better coached than others ! I am sure they started late they always do................B+ 88 I want more>

MAMA MIA....remember I won free tickets.....well I go with my dear friend Gary Turner who like me has lots of adventure and lets go and do it spirit. Have seen this one before and it is a first class Las Vegas show at the Mandalay Bay. First class actors and production.....has a year to run and I would recommend this to anyone......but not twice. They did a hell of job with a live orchestra and terrific dancing and character development.....there was dialogue and writing...............WOW !

Some negatives....too loud, with the exception of Dancing Queen no top music, audio in some of this nonexistent (I actually listen) started 5 minutes late and worst of all a 16 minute intermission. 78 C+

Thats what I did on super Sunday !

3 FEBRUARY 2009 THE DAY MUSIC DIED, SURF BALLROOM, CLEAR LAKE IOWA, BUDDY HOLLYS LAST SHOW, THE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY REUNION, I WILL BE THERE TO REPORT. PEACE
