LAS VEGAS PHILHARMONIC

by Ed Bruce edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

Pretty proud that we have such a fine growing symphony in Las Vegas.

They are planning a new venue downtown.....I am not sure I am going to like it....UNLV's Ham Hall convenient...good parking...easy access....good seating 2400ish and the sound is terrific...I hate change !

Anyway, Saturday.....late

808 kickoff... Listz, wonderful
822 setup
824 Saint-Saens cello, Gal Nyska (he is young and very good)
847 21 minute intermission
908 Mozart Symphony no. 40 in g minor ....easy to see and hear why this was among his best
940 fini

I am always intrigued by the sechedule, 100 minutes from 800 to 940....31 minutes dead time and 69 minutes of 49 strings.....fine for me and anytime the violins are in motion I am in motion,..... but this was quick.

I love the music and it is well played and if it was not you could hear about it here....the LVPhil is tremendous asset to Las Vegas and to me....I have been doing the top row of the balcony where there appears to be a minimum amount of crying babies, cell phones and general intermural traffic....(I really come for the music).

Rumor has it that Conductor David Itkin does a pregame show which has great appeal to me...I have heard one....this info was not available or publicizied this trip so I cannot report. Itkin seems to be well accepted in his rookie season, sometimes he talks to the audience which I like.....not today.

Just about perfect 91 A-...remember they lose 1 point for every minute late....the standard for grading all shows still Sammy Davis Jr.

Next strings April 18 Cashman Field 8 pm...Red Mountain...I will be there !
