The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society singing broadway hits. What a great body of music...salute to the songwriters, you know who they are, all of them the classics.
For the second time and the last time now, I am done with group singing unless they are the Mills Brothers....the bar is too high ! I don't want chorus, chorale and medleys, it interfers with the lyrics, quality, sound and tonality. That was the case here at the CCSN Horn theatre....too much overlap. Any complete song would be fine from this songbook, but with 44 singers trying to hit on key, it is too much of a load for me.
Started 11 minutes late, 17 minute intermission went 2.16...too long, too hot, too bad.
There were highlites: with husband wife team Elaine and Tod Fitzpatrick doing Make Believe from Showboat, but with Howard Keel and Kathyrn Grayson doing it on the "boat", the bar is really high here.
Great finger food afterward, they shut off the ac which was bad and on the questionaire they asked for the highlite....I wrote, "when the drummer left" ! My last chorus show, sorry.

It is with a sigh of relief that we readers accept as truth your statement that you will not attend another "group singing."
You were right about one thing...great composers and lyricists were represented in a limited amount of time. It would be a perfect world if everyone could see every single musical ever made, and hear every single song written for the stage in its entirety. The Fitzpatrick's rendition of "Make Believe" was apparently acceptable to you, but shouldn't have been attempted because Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson set the bar too high. If one were to follow your rather arrogant logic, it would follow that no Broadway hits or songs should ever be revived or attempted in fear of not setting a higher bar.
It is obvious, from your article, that what you came for was the "finger food" and a chance to hurt the feelings of 44 mostly senior citizens who volunteer their time in an attempt to keep music alive and remembered. I am not a member of the group, but will continue to support them and gratefully attend their concerts whenever I can. I was delighted to see that several young people have joined the chorus. I fervently hope that your attempt at a spiteful and cleverly written review brought you nothing but disdain, and did not discourage the members...or the audiences who support them. I was pleased to see a record turnout for a thoroughly enjoyable show.
I would recommend that you rent the movie "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" and study it well. The purpose of a review is to inform and critique...not to assassinate and destroy. You gained nothing. Hopefully, you have lost more than my respect. And by the way, the a/c was not turned off...it malfunctioned...as did you.
Sincerely,
Sandra Oertell
