The music of Harold Arlen....this more a rehersal (and a bad one) than a show.
Its at the Greek Isles and it was a load for me.
TOO LATE (15 MINUTES) TOO LOUD (WHEN THE MIKES DID WORK) TOO DARK (THUROUT)
Great premise with this great songbook but lots of work needed here...did not particularily like any of the six performers...some live music...some canned...hard to tell. All three leads looked like they needed a haircut and just too much screwing around.... combo duos and trios....ahh !
Jesus Christ.... Arlen wrote the music for the Wizard of Oz....this and his work deserve better....pretty amatuerish effort....in and out of themes !
Maybe it will get better, don't know who they could sell this to as it is..l..64 D

Ed, I’ve been following your blog for a while now and am a fan but I must say I find your comments to be a bit too soft regarding this cruel insult of a great composer. The issues here go far beyond the less-than-high-school production quality and bad hair. These are largely lounge-act posers trying to get over on the audience. I would have expected more integrity from someone who claims to be Harold Arlen's son. My mistake.
What I find so sad is the subject matter and material they have to work with could not be better. Harold Arlen's life and work deserves to (in fact MUST) be shared!
Clearly, those behind this production don't "get it" (and don't "have it" either). Stop wasting your time, guys - and ours!!!
