Boxing at the Silver Nuggett on Las Vegas Boulevard......North Las Vegas.....the first boxing here in 15 years.....the casino has changed some......they built a nice small arena for this back then....it was clean, white and quiet......now it is dark, loud and Spanish.
Richard Steele and the casino have combined to stage monthly cards.....club cards....low level or first time fighters.....first three fights....not bad. Started 15 minutes late.....terrible ring announcer speaking almost entirely in bad Spanish.....Spanish is OK but give us both! In late October they do a replay....probably on a Tuesday.....after three fights we had a Spanish singing intermission....you know intermission....a time to ......I did. This throwing out T-shirts from the ring is a trully bad idea like touching up in the ring prior to the last round...it creates an opportunity for conflict (they had it).
All $100 a round fighters probably $3400 for the card and maybe $4000 for the athletic commission administrators.....small time stuff....I was glad to be there and enjoy. Between fights four men stood in a circle talking.....Jay Nady....Richard Steele....Joe Cortez and me ! Arguably the three greatest boxing referees of all time.....these three have been in with everybody and I was already to interact with all three.....life is pretty sweet !
Start on time....turn the lights on...speak English....lets get it on B 84.
