Munich has 4 orchestra's ....so the program says....certainly a good thing....this...... one of them.
6 minutes late....18 minute intermission....Germans can't start on time either....this group on a five week tour....I was contemplating the daily cost of 50ish players (at $200 a day, room and board...that would be $10,000 daily....35 days $350,000.....ball park maybe....its a load) that without travel. Anyway only 300 or 400 at Ham Hall on the UNLV campus Sunday night...no way we need a new symphony hall downtown....guessing somebody lost their ass on this deal.
Not me...I loved it.....two Beethoven pieces....Piano Concerto No. 5, op 73, three movements with conductor soloist Philippe Entremont performing from center stage....different.......nice excellent music....they could still win me over with the piano.
A too long halftime and then Beethoven's Symphony No. 4.....another great opportunity for me to hear a classic symphony....33 strings slightly rearranged from the piano piece.....all good stuff.....introduced by a crying baby.....truly incredible that they allow children in the door...its the constant receipe for realized disaster.
