THE THREE BIG NEGATIVES....TO LATE TOO LOUD TOO DARK.
The show 4 minutes late, live orchestra drowding out the vocals (kill the drummer)....only slightly too dark.....with four spotlights plenty was available...this darkness mostly on the edges !
Anyway this the "black" Wizard of Oz.....a hell of a production by the Las Vegas Academy....high school students with great teaching and management....if there were weaknesses....the acting was not among them. They have a beautiful theatre (old style) downtown Las Vegas 315 south 7th street....you will be enriched by supporting their stuff !
It was long...... 7:04-9:23........ with an intermission. I had not seen this before and as good as it was it could have been better if they would have killed the drummer...what are the purose of lyrics if you can"t hear them ? Enormous cast....dozens.....loved the orchestra with fairly good lyrics such as they were. I was impressed with the teaching and acting....these kids all worked at it and we were treated to three or four really nice dance numbers....everybody had great costumes...especially the crows. Jack Haleys part by Cody Canyon was the standout...lovely voice and great actor.
You cannot start late and get a perfect score.....93 A
