NEVADA BALLET THEATRE

by Ed Bruce edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

It's a new ballgame.....different players !

The Nevada Ballet Theatre (of which I am a big fan) finished their season with "American Masters at Artemus Ham Hall on the UNLV campus.

Lots of dead time as usual with two intermissions, pauses and pleas for cash !

The Ham Hall remains the premire spot for this event with all its pluses.....25oo Saturday afternoon in the finale.

I love the dance and three world class dancers and new pieces came to us at no small expense I am sure.....whatever....the quality and effort and skill of the dancers was worth it. NBT company did the opener and the closer. Everything is to taste.....I loved the first half.....my wife liked the NBT finale (seemed to me lots of running in circles) !

So what ?

NBT has trimmed many lead principals and gone to a company ensemble plan with 15 dancers all with equal billing (if not ability....that remains to be seen) ! Many of my favorite dancers are now unemployed, working elsewhere or looking for work. The world does not have lots of dance companys and certainly not enough good ones like the NBT. James Casfield is the new artistic director....bringing in some local history and his personal plan.....we wish him luck.

Goodbye to many old friends.....some who were kind enough to send emails and thank yous.

I hate any change.....I will try and live with it !

This performance certainly as good as I want to see with most of the extras implimented.....some question of sound.....when and how financially can we afford live music would be the next question ? $$$$$$$

A tad late....95 A.....Thanks again to many old friends in new experiences in life !
