BERNADETTE PETERS

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

45 minutes after the show I want to write this now while it is fresh in my mind !

It WILL be in my mind forever, this among the best things ever in my life !

A perfect day, handball, poker, flower show, umpire baseball, diner with Janet at the Heidleberg German restaurant and capped by this masterpiece show.

Tonights performance the best combination of music, arrangements, sound, theatre and vocal I have ever seen...everything better than perfect.

It started on time...I mentioned after Johnny Mathis that I only hope I see something in my life to equal that show....tonight I did and better because it started on time and then allowed the show to surpass all levels.

This the penultimate cap to the UNLV New York Stage and Screen Series at UNLV's Ham Hall, still my choice of all showrooms in the world. I continue to brag on this venue in light of a new downtown Las Vegas venue for music, dance and whatever...the level for this new venue to reach, even to equal Ham Hall is astronomically high ! Tonight an example to perfection of how good sound, orchestra and vocal can meld into one. 29 pieces, 13 strings, 14 horns, drummer, keyboard and conductor, all put together in perfect creative arrangements to allow the background music to enhance the vocals and not overpower lyrics so often common in this new world. Lyrics, what an amazing phenomenen, to hear the worlds of the composers married to the orchestra !

Can't overexpress how damn good this was ! Peters at 62 never left the stage in 82 minutes and left everyone wanting more...especially me....thats the time to leave.
I really had hoped for some Annie Get Your Gun, but I did get South Pacific and lots of Sondheim. I have heard Peggy Lee, Eartha Kitt, and Rita Moreno all do "Fever" tonight Peters laid out on the piano and put a touch to this classic unequalled. Peters born in Queens looking like two million dollars in her gold split leg shoulderless sequined gown. If ever a prototype for the All American Girl, this was it. None of this to be overpowering of her magnificent voice and delivery of song or songs and songs...what a singer and what a workman like personal touch she put on top of this god given instrument we enjoyed tonight.

Damn this was great.

A beautiful program in addition to Peters mission to sell CDs and Books to benefit homeless animals, how can you not love her and this mission.

Peters with a great history of Broadway, Television and Tours brought it all to me tonight...AS GOOD A SHOW AS I HAVE EVER SEEN...will I live to ever see anything beter than this !
