– JACKSONVILLE, FL – Thursday, August 12 – The time for talk, analysis and anticipation is over. It is time for the teams of the United Football League to take the field.
The first of the training camps for the five UFL teams participating in the 2010 season begin this weekend, as the Florida Tuskers report for physicals and conditioning tests on Friday, August 14 and then practice for the first time at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Monday, August 16.
Both the Las Vegas Locomotives and Hartford Colonials open camp on Monday August 16 and take to the field at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas and Sage Park in Berlin, CT, respectively on Wednesday, August 18.
The Omaha Nighthawks report on Thursday, August 19 before making their debut at the city’s Kroc Center on Saturday, August 21. The Sacramento Mountain Lions are the last team to report on Sunday, August 22 before practicing at USAA Recreation Field on Tuesday, August 24.
“There is a lot of anticipation for our second season to start and once teams get underway at training camp, there really is that excitement of the kickoff only being a short time away,” said UFL Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE. “This year our fans can follow their teams’ progress in the five home cities and as part of our promise to bring the fans closer to the action, elements of all training camps are open to the public.”
The Locomotives will begin camp as the United Football League defending champions, having defeated the Tuskers 20-17 in overtime in the first-ever UFL championship game in 2009.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Locos head coach / general manager JIM FASSEL. “Everything we do every day contributes to our success. We all got into coaching to develop players on the field and develop a team. Now, the season is upon us, and it’s exciting.”
Each team’s daily practice schedule and player roster will be available at www.UFL-Football.com.
