JUST TURNED DOWN FOR CREDENTIALS...EVIDENTALLY THE TEAM DOES NOT WANT PUBLICY...THIS THE LAST REPORT.
IN 1984 MY FIRST YEAR IN LAS VEGAS UNLV FOOTBALL WAS BRIEFLY A TOP 25 TEAM !
SINCE THEN PRETTY MUCH NOTHING.
Saturday at home against Wisconsin they take another shot...20 plus underdogs and a new coach. The coaches come in five year cycles and this one....Bobby Hauck...comes with glowing credentials and winning seasons and national championships at Montana...there is always hope. The bar is high and with football a coaching heavy end profession Hauck has a big mountain ahead of him. UNLIKE baseball, football coaches can and do make a difference...the game as Larry Donavan once said ...the combination of war and chess. THUSLY the ball in Bobby Hauck´s court.
Hauck left with a less than average below 500 team faces the toughest schedule in the country with Wisconsin, Byu,Utah, Tcu, West Virgina and new Mountain West addition and in state rival Nevada whom the rebels have not beaten since the last ice age.
After starting only one game last year and trailing senior Omar Clayton throughout, spring and fall camps...Hauck has named junior Mike Clausen as his starting quarterback...I thought the pair were very even and still may be but I am not on the field everyday and altho quarterbacks are very important if you have a couple of good tackles you can have an offense.
