JUST THE BEST !
What great great events Las Vegans have the opportunity to enjoy !
This a one nighter, part of the Charles Vanda Master Series at UNLV'S Ham Hall Saturday night.
STARTED ON TIME...at 759 no one on stage, at 759:30 the entire orchestra entered as a team and then played as a team, 52 Russian string players....how does it get better than this.
Lets open with Tchaikovsky....Capriccio Italian, Op. 45...just a quick ditty...I am already partial to Tchaikovsky and this another great example of why the composer remains the second best in history (following Lennon-McCartny)...just lovely sounds.
Max Bruch....violin concerto No.1 in G minor, Op. 26....violinist Jennifer Koh.
What a treat to finish my day...one of the worlds great artists...she is all over the world and selected this masterpiece to treat me specifically. The music somewhat close in principal to the great Tchaikovsky violin concerto...violin in front of the orchestra which melded to it perfectly. This was a "close you eyes and listen" deal just perfectly played and answered the question for me..."so many symphonys to be heard so little time", checked this one off the list of previously unknown symphonys...oh boy. Do I hope to live long enought to hear this again ?
20 minute intermission inserted only for those in the middle of the row to crawl out and over me to who knows where....they always come back...really small crowd for this.... maybe 300 in the acoustically perfect Ham Hall.
Modest Mussorgsky...Pictures at an Exhibition....something really different here with ten musicial selections constructed to relate and reveal art...different...
it went about 33 minutes without pause...nicely creative with 52 string players and the 74 piece orchestra...another smyphony in my bag of those heard and enjoyed.
Short light encore...done at 943 and over to see the Divas !
Pavel Kogan Conductor....pretty much father of the project here since 1989...he gives that great overall look that tells me...I have rehearsed, I know what I am doing, I will stay out of the road and let you enjoy the music.
THANK YOU PAVEL
