UNLV SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

IT JUST DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS !

Universities need to teach, produce and educate violin players...exactly what UNLV is doing.... this at Ham Hall concert under the direction of Taras Krysa. Please Taras I plan to live another decade and love the many concerts and venues which you bring the classics to me...stick around another decade !

The October 26 concert short and on time.

Perfect acoustics as always at Ham Hall.

4 minutes John Adams...Short Ride in a Fast Machine...it was fast and short !

19 minutes W.A.Mozart ...Concerto for Bassoon in B-flat Major, K. 191....in 1963 I was 18 in my second year of college and had never heard of Mozart or anyone else in the classics...in 1838 Mozart composed this at 18. I still marvel at the genius involved here...how these notes, rhythms and melodies come to the human mind. Janis KcKay, featured on the bassoon here, she worked well with the strings in three movements that grew on me as we went along. Another symphony to be heard.

16 minute intermission (totaly unnecessary)

37 minutes Robert Schumann...Symphony No.2 in C Major, Op. 61...I did not like it...however Krysa has told me to respect the music which I did. After reading the program and complicated perverse life Schumann led it is amazing he composed anything...not my favorite.

I cannot wait for the next concert.

Thank you to Taras Krysa, UNLV Ham Hall and all the students for their efforts in making these concerts a top stop on my event calendar.

98 A+
