STILL LATE....4 MINUTES...late is always unacceptable and this is the first thing we see...too bad that the effort and expense put into this show is tarnished by not staring on time...thus you lose one point on the show score for every minute late...you do here anyway...... sooooo lets see what happens to a perfect score of 100 from this point!
Vegas .......at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas strip.... upstairs at the old Steve Wyrick theatre 6 nights a week at 7 and 9, $80 and up...certainly money well spent.
This my second review of the show and there have been changes and alterations...for the better...possible more could evolve...among the reasons I plan to review this show 3 or 4 times a year...not the least of which is....... I LOVE IT !
DAVID SAXE, the producer, should get top credit for this gem for the entire picture and casting not the least of which is the total look of the show with every performer constantly portraying a super interest and attention to detail...credit here goes to the top. All shows should look like this, but they don't !
Tezz Yancey is the headliner for this and he could not be better cast...he takes that great set of Louis Armstrong white teeth and his consideral talents to many levels, not the least of which is the standard...Sammy Davis Jr. Yancey, with perfect enunciation and elecution makes you believe his every piece ! Yancey plays a custodian to open the show in front of old casino signs setting the pace for the shows theme.
As good as Yanceys sound was I had some trouble with the overall sound, especially the female signers which were a tad fast and slightly inaudible.
DANCE.....lots of it here and I loved it all...Tara Palsha in her green split dress and red hair dressed up the "Sinatra" piece better than Sinatra himself...all the music numbers accompanied by costumed full cast dance and it was something to look forward to. Tiger Martina credited with the choreography and it was better than perfect...lots of effort and rehersal have gone into to this and in now runs smoothly twice nightly. There is another hook...I am betting the second show looks as good as the first show each night...but it probably starts late too or later !
Each number is specially costumed and just perfect...how great the cast looks with their attitude, production, natural good looks and costumes. I could not find a costume credit in the bios so credit again goes to the top...David Saxe.
John and Sean Scott...young, energetic, beautiful twin tap dancers are welcome on my stage any day...they are really on too briefly, which maybe the standard secret, leave with me wanting more...headliners in their own right.
There have been changes to the show since opening night with a different magician and Liberace puppet ommission. The magician was also brief leaving me wanting more.
Standup comedian, brief too...maybe not brief enough....seemed just a schoosh out of place alto certainly within the historical theme of the show...standup comedy is tough and maybe tougher trying to fit material into the theme herein.
SPEED, TIMING AND CONTINUTY....all there melding in with the lovely costumes....the show would have to be a center piece for back stage tours to get everyone off, on and costumed........ looking as good as this does.
The singers were strong in multi roles of famous folks...possible "Sinatra" could yet reach the level of some working in town ?
Near the end of the show a huge curtain drops to an Elton John piece....a video shows the history of Vegas...probably too briefly on an uneven screen and being in the second row this was nearly unviewable...in my case I have seen it all before but this plays better to those farther back.
My friend Gary said..."one of the top 5 shows in town".
My wife Janet..."tight, colorful, great costumes, no minuses".
My fried Sandy..."I was here in the 50's...this was vegas...great dancing".
Ed Bruce...I could go every week...it made me feel good and all the performers wanted to be there to do this show for me".
Thank you David Saxe...may this show outlive them all !
Still not perfect...edges for slight improvement...I know they will...they have the pulse of it.
94 A.....lost 4 of those points for late.
