GRAND FINALE !
OPOLE, PHILHARMONIC OF POLAND !
This the finale show at UNLV's Ham Hall in the annual Performing Arts Series...the fifth of six and it helped solve one of my personal ongoing unanswered problems..."SO MANY SMYPHONYS TO BE HEARD....SO LITTLE TIME".
A special treat here with the Polish consulate presenting an introductory welcome and award to conductor Boguslaw Dawidow....then we played.
With the usual delay in starting they orchestra mimaced all Las Vegas shows except NASCAR, that of being late !
Overture to Die Zauberflote....Mozart....you can't go wrong with Mozart kicking off the menu...all too brief. In the program (excellent tales or tails of music history) Mozart remarked about Beethoven... (their lives operlapped 21 years)... "Keep your eye on him; he will make the world talk about him some day." YET ANOTHER NOTE TO GENIUS OF MOZART.
Piano Concerto in A minor. Op.17...Ignacy Jan Paderewski....Eugeni Mikhailov, Piano...I still have trouble with the piano...seems to me it gets in the road of the strings....however this world class artist ran over this score in 33 minutes after the cumbersome job of bringing the piano on stage after Mozart...why not open with this ? Paderweski, seldom heard here...played well this night !
Intermission...too long.
Symphony No.5 in C Minor, Op. 67 Ludwig Van Beethoven. Needless to say this was not in the group of my unheard symphonys but it is truly among the great pieces of music of recorded history. Lovely job ...DA DA DA DAH...THE FOUR FAMOUS OPENING NOTES... I closed my eyes and then monitored the genius Mozart discussed about Beethoven as this fine orchestra performed perfectly.
One more Performing Arts performance at UNLV's Ham Hall this season...Hits from Broadways Greatest Musicals....702 895 2787
