LAST COWBOY STANDING

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

IT WAS LUKE SNYDER ! ! !

This PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDERS ASSOCIATION special pay per view TV EVENT at Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday night billed as a million dollar spectacular, paid Snyder $216 500 and spread the wealth to 39 other cowboys.

PBR and NASCAR the worlds greatest organizers and promoters are welcome forever in Las Vegas just do everything right in their events...fan friendly...fly the flag...reasonable ticket prices...great organization and staff and deliver world class entertainment...I could live on NASCAR and the PBR.

PBR returns to Las Vegas in October for their annual championship at the Thomas and Mack with friendly prices and more good will...their web site constanly promotes their events and provides great background information, the same as their PR staff...pbr.com.

Anyway there was this wonderful event Saturday with the usual horns, whistles, replays, fireworks, prototechs, showgirls, clowns and of course bull riders.

The top 40 riders each got one shot to ride...with two replays, the bulls prevailed in round one 26-16.

24 riders went home and 16 entered round two with the bulls again prevailing 12-4, altho the bulls led 12-1 with the last 3 cowboys scoring successful rides.

Third and final round...bulls 3-1 with the nights final rider, Luke Snyder, dramatically scoring 90 on Wild and Out, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Box K Cattle Company. Final score, BUllS 41 COWBOYS 21...I tend to root for the bulls altho they really don't need my support.

Snyder, at 28 was just 18 when he was rookie of the in 2001 in Las Vegas and was the world champion here that year. Snyder not having a great year so far with only $16,343 this year scored 88, 90.5 and 90 in becoming the only rider to score three successful 8 second rides and cash top money here.

Bull riding has its wonderful nuances, timing, scorekeeping, color, drama, great annoucers, competition, new challenges and remains one of the great events to come to Las Vegas, we had all that and more Saturday and so did 6011 fans at Mandalay Bay.

Great venue, organized by the PBR and for me easy access in and out of the parking lot and over the freeway home.

YEAH !

98 A+
