ONE OF THE TREASURES OF THIS LIFE AND A SPECIAL SHOW FOR ME.
Scotty's Castle in the extreme....we really mean extreme.... north end of Death Valley National Park is a world class tourist destination with tours daily and an extreme experience in architecture, history and weather. In this Castle, is an organ...they fire it up once a year and June 17th and 18th the dates for 2011...glad to be there.
Organist James Welch did the three shows...71 minutes, could not have been better.
Dr. Welch said you need all four types of music in such a concert...religous, classical, patriotic and pops....he did them all along with some wonderful play by play, history of the music, history of the organ and the playing itself. Setup for each piece required...this organ had special features, cymbals, horns, drums, hoots and hops and wonderful surprises !
The organ put here in 1928 at no small cost endures through the Organ and Chimes Tower Fund for Scottys Castle, donations and these concerts. www.dvnha.org 800-478-8564.
We traveled the Danube in December with its castles, organs and history...Scotty's Castle organ in a class by itself, the best sound of any organ I ever heard....all encompassing round sound with enclosed reverberation throughout this small living room area...the best ever...clean, clear, pure, touching, moving, just wonderful. A wall of pipes visable stage left as the numbers were played allowed for a rich touching sound unlike most screeching off key too loud organs I have heard in the past. This was only perfect. One of the special treats of a life time.
They started on time...yeah...102 A+ A+....looking forward to 2012
Great to be alive for an experience like this.
