LAS VEGAS CONTEMPORARY DANCE THEATER

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

14 MINUTES LATE...

THEN IT WENT DOWN HILL...

GEE I WANTED TO LIKE THIS...

THE COMPANY HAS DONE A NUMBER OF PROGRAMS AT THE WEST LAS VEGAS LIBRARY THEATRE AND ALMOST WITHOUT FLAW....IT ALWAYS HAD A "WOW" FACTOR TO THE PROGRAM.....NOT TONIGHT !

GEE I WANTED TO LIKE THIS....

BERNARD GADDIS HAS WORKED MILLIONS OF HOURS TO MAKE THIS WORLD CLASS AND IT HAS BEEN UNTIL TONIGHT.

THE FIVE YEAR COMPANY MAKING ITS SMITH CENTER DEBUT WITH SEVEN PIECES LOOKED UNREHEARSED...UNPREPARED AND TECHNICALLY UNSOUND.

IT WAS NOT BAD....THERE WAS GOOD DANCE....NOT THOUGH WHAT I HAVE COME TO EXPECT.....NO "WOW" FACTOR.

AFTER THE LONG DELAY ONE OF MALE DANCERS FELL IN "VARIATIONS"....A CLEVER CLEAR ENERGETIC PIECE....THIS OPENING SEQUENCE SET THE TONE.

MOST PIECES TOO LONG....UNCERTAIN CURTAIN CALLS....STARTS....STOPS....NO SCHEDULE FOR INTERMISSION....AT 9PM THE 90 MINUTES INCLUDED JUST 29 MINUTES OF DANCING....

MY WIFE LEFT.....

I MOVED FROM THE FLOOR TO AN UPSTAIRS BOX...WHEN THE SIGHT LINE WAS IMPAIRED FOR A ROW OF CHAIRS....WHO...WHY...WHAT....WHERE IS THE PERFECT VENUE AND PREPARATION FOR THE STAGING OF THIS ?

RJ REVIEWER JULIA OSBORNE GAVE THIS AN A-....NOT ME ...NOT TONIGHT...THIS COMPANY IS CAPABLE OF SO MUCH MORE ...I HAVE SEEN IT AND EXPECT IT IN THE FUTURE....JULIA SAW A NEARLY FULL HOUSE AT THE SMITH...I SAW NEARLY A HALF HOUSE.

PAST REVIEWS OF THIS COMPANY HAVE BEEN EXEMPLARY...BECAUSE THE SHOWS WERE OUTSTANDING....NOT TONIGHT...

I REMAIN THE WORLDS GREATEST SUPPORTER OF THE ARTS AND ESPECIALLY THE DANCE AND REMAIN ANXIOUS FOR THE NEXT LVCDT SHOW..

Wow! Where were in the same theater? My experience was totally different and I saw them in the Las Vegas Library and they were very good, but at the Smith Center they were better.
Their performance was awesome! I particularly enjoyed Metamorphosis II, the form was on point. Better than at the Library (in my humble opinion). Vesper as always was flawless, love it. But I think my favorite was the last piece with the independent type of jam session, reminded me of a jazz quartet just jamming to their own groove.
It was well worth my 4 hour drive up to Las Vegas and my friend from your city also enjoyed the performance. In fact our entire roll seemed to enjoy the show.
Isn't it a beautiful thing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! That performance was Simply Beautiful! I would do it all over again, except I would bring more people. Oh and by the way, the theater looked almost completely full and for a Tuesday night in Las Vegas, I think that was awesome!
"Just Saying".
