COMPANY PREPARES FOR A SPLENDID SEASON OF NEW
WORKS, CELEBRATED MASTERPIECES AND TIMELESS CLASSICS AS IT ENTERS INTO ITS
SECOND YEAR
AS RESIDENT BALLET COMPANY OF THE SMITH CENTER
FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
LAS
VEGAS,
NV (Monday, March
25, 2013) Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) announced today
its 2013-2014 Season, beginning with the widely popular collaboration between
NBT and Cirque du Soleil, returning to the Mystère Theatre in October. The
company will then showcase a special tribute to Tchaikovsky with two famous
story ballets – Swan Lake Act II
and Sleeping Beauty Act III. In December, the
Magic continues with The
Nutcracker, a premiere production choreographed by Artistic Director
James Canfield that debuted last year at The Smith Center. In order to remain
affordable, NBT will offer patrons four performances without orchestra.
A one-of-a-kind dance experience,
The Studio Series returns for a fourth year with new elements - adding to the
dynamicism of original works and commissioned pieces. Finally, the season ends
with three works as part of an energetic repertory program including the return
of acclaimed choreographer Matthew Neenan’s bold work, At the border, with live musical
accompaniment.
“It is always exciting to announce a new
season,” said Artistic Director James Canfield . “By presenting audiences with
revered classics as well as unique contemporary works, presented in our new
performance home, The Smith Center, we hope to infuse new interest in our art
form among the Las Vegas community.”
