NBT

Nevada Ballet Theatre's professional dancers are on break in between seasons and the rehearsal studios are quiet at this time of year. But walk into Studio 1 on any given afternoon, and you can still feel the energy of new works yet to be created, new performances yet to be given life. For anyone who loves ballet, these pauses are full of just as much meaning as the whirlwind of activity that returns in the fall; this is when the seeds of artistic inspiration are planted.

YOU KEEP US ON OUR TOES
Sponsorship Opportunities Available

Nevada Ballet Theatre returns to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on November 1 & 2 with an exhilarating tribute to Tchaikovsky, featuring Act II of Swan Lake and Act III of Sleeping Beauty (Aurora's Wedding). Just as we rely on the return of our dancers to make these performances a reality, we also rely on individuals like you who are willing to sponsor Nevada Ballet Theatre productions and the Education & Outreach programs offered throughout the year.

Sleeping Beauty has been generously sponsored by Barrick Gold of North America, but opportunities to support Swan Lake Act II are still available, as well as installments of our School Matinee series, which provides access for underserved youth to all of Nevada Ballet Theatre's main stage productions.  For more information, please contact Director of Development Angela Quick at 702-243-2623 ext.228 or aquick@nevadaballet.org.

FUTURE DANCE SCHOLARS COME FULL-CIRCLE DURING 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF PROGRAM

Serving over 4,000 students annually, 2013 marks the 20th anniversary of Future Dance, one of the oldest and most successful education and outreach programs in the Clark County School District. After two exciting decades of building awareness and much needed funding for this rewarding program, the company ushered through its first three graduates in the program's history; Future Dance Scholars Karri Jonas, Carolyn Roorda and Ariel Triunfo. Adding to the excitement of this milestone, seventeen year-old Ariel, who delighted audiences as "Kitri" in the Academy's presentation of Don Quixote, was offered a Trainee position with Nevada Ballet Theatre for the 2013-2014 Season, under the direction of Artistic Director James Canfield. Best wishes to all three students who plan to continue performing and congratulations to Ariel on being Nevada Ballet Theatre's first Future Dance Scholar to join the professional company as a Trainee dancer.

For more information on Future Dance, contact Terane Comito, Director of Education & Outreach at (702) 243-2623, ext. 249.

NEVADA BALLET THEATRE WELCOMES MONIQUE MEUNIER & NILAS MARTINS AS CO-DIRECTORS OF OUR AFFILIATED ACADEMY

Nevada Ballet Theatre recently announced the appointment of our new Academy Co-Directors, former New York City Ballet Principal Dancer and American Ballet Theatre Soloist Monique Meunier and former New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Nilas Martins. The husband and wife team will oversee the Academy's faculty and student body who comprise its Pre-Professional Program, Children's Program and Dance Program. Following relocation to Las Vegas, they will begin their duties in August at the start of the Academy's fall semester.

Over the course of their careers, Ms. Meunier and Mr. Martins trained with some of the world's most celebrated teachers and choreographers and performed lead roles in countless ballets. They have worked with numerous companies and taught at universities, schools and festivals throughout the world. In addition to their experience as repetiteurs for The George Balanchine Trust, their wealth of knowledge comprises all facets of the ballet industry; from teaching to staging and re-staging works, choreographing, coaching and mentoring both professionals and students. "I applaud Nevada Ballet Theatre for having the foresight to bring in Monique Meunier and Nilas Martins as Directors of their Academy," said Peter Boal, Artistic Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet. "Between them, they have a wealth of experience and knowledge which will add immeasurably to the school, company and community."

Please join us in welcoming Monique and Nilas.
