TAGGED THIS WITH LVPHIL RELEASE ON CABRERAS NEW CONTRACT

LAS VEGAS (October 10, 2016) - The Las Vegas Philharmonic recently renewed Music Director Donato Cabrera’s contract agreement with the orchestra for an additional three years.  This will extend Cabrera’s role as Music Director and Conductor of the Las Vegas Philharmonic through the 2019 – 2020 concert season, the orchestra’s 20th anniversary.  Cabrera is the Philharmonic’s third Music Director since the orchestra’s inception in 1998, assuming his role in the 2014 – 2015 concert season.  Under Cabrera’s leadership, the orchestra has expanded its programming to include Sunday matinees and a new Spotlight Concert Series featuring members of the Philharmonic performing in small ensembles.  In addition to programming time-honored symphonic works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms to name a few, the Las Vegas Philharmonic’s seasons regularly feature premieres by celebrated American artists, demonstrating Cabrera’s commitment to programming music by living composers.
“We are thrilled that our orchestra will continue working with Donato for another three seasons,” said President and CEO, Jeri Crawford.   “Donato has developed a strong rapport with our musicians and shares in our commitment to enrich our community through music and education programs to inspire the next generation of musicians.”
“I’m very grateful that the Las Vegas community has embraced me with such open arms and that my family continues to have a presence here, which is now approaching fifty years.  I am intensely proud of all that we have achieved thus far.  In just a short time, the orchestra and I have completely reshaped our programming and artistic vision, offering our beloved audience a wide range of music.  We are beginning to reach out for the first time to parts of our community who have a rich and diverse history of music making.  Through our Spotlight Concerts, we not only have begun to focus on the chamber music of these great composers, but these concerts give our audience a wonderful chance to really interact with our fantastic musicians. Over the next few years, I look forward to continuing to build on these strengths as well as introducing new projects that further deepens our connection to this wonderful city,” said Music Director Donato Cabrera.
Cabrera has been Music Director of the California Symphony since 2013 and served as the Resident Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony and the Wattis Foundation Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2009-2016.
