Opening Night
The 2014-15 season will open on Saturday, September 27th with the first Masterworks Series concert “Introducing Maestro Cabrera with special guest Deborah Voigt.” The orchestra’s new conductor Donato Cabrera, who conducted last season’s “Battle Born – Nevada Proud!” concert, leads a program of opera arias, Broadway classics and orchestral works. The guest vocalist for this concert will be soprano Deborah Voigt. She will perform arias by Beethoven and Wagner from operas Fidelio and The Ring of the Nibelung (The Valkyrie), and sing Broadway selections from Sweet Adeline, Show Boat, and Porgy and Bess (full program details follow).
This concert will be Maestro Cabrera’s first performance as Music Director for the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Deborah Voigt’s debut in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center. Deborah appears regularly, as both performer and host, in the Metropolitan Opera’s The Met: Live in HD series. In March 2014, she portrayed Marie in Wozzeck at The Metropolitan Opera. The New York Times claimed “she gives a vulnerable, intense portrayal of a role that suits her well.” Upcoming engagements for Ms. Voigt include the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and The Dallas Opera.
The opening night celebration includes a pre-concert Cocktail Party in The Founder’s Room at The Smith Center at 6:00PM. Tickets are $50 per person and available now from the Las Vegas Philharmonic, phone 702.258.5438
