LAS VEGAS, NV (Tuesday, August 17, 2021) – Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) is pleased to announce its 2021-2022 Season, part of its jubilant 50th Anniversary year (2022), and long-awaited return to The Smith Center stage. This landmark Season will delight audiences with engaging world premieres, a once-in-a-lifetime Anniversary Gala evening, and a scintillating season finale complete with orchestral and choral accompaniment.
On December 11, 2021, NBT’s new Season will commence with its beloved annual production of The Nutcracker, the heart and soul of every ballet performance season. Audiences of all ages will gather again during the most festive time of the year to witness this larger-than-life production that continues to blend the best of dance, visual artistry, and holiday tradition. NBT’s Nutcracker will be presented over three weekends including special Christmas eve and after Christmas performances.
“We could not be more thrilled to usher in a new season and perform again for our audience,” said Artistic Director Roy Kaiser. “The artistry of our dancers paired with brilliant choreography will serve as the perfect backdrop for this inspiring year of celebration.”
A splendid program of specially commissioned new works created on and for NBT’s professional company of artists will follow on February 5, 2022. Featuring a world premiere by lauded contemporary choreographer Trey McIntyre, this dynamic evening of repertoire will underscore the importance of original ballets. “New works are critical for the growth of any ballet company and they create a unique artistic identity for NBT,” said Roy Kaiser. “They feed the creative soul of our dancers and they inspire and excite our audiences as they experience the future of our art form.”
As part of a one-night-only exclusive Gala evening, audiences will be treated to an unforgettable night of dance on May 14, 2022 with show-stopping performances, guest artists, and other soon-to-be-announced surprises. Commemorating five decades of dance in Las Vegas, NBT’s long-awaited 50th Anniversary will celebrate its future as it pays tribute to its past.
“During this important moment in our history, we are reminded that even in extraordinary times, the resiliency of our art form shines through,” said Executive Director & CEO Beth Barbre. “As we reflect upon the spirited legacy built by our Co-Founder and Co-Chair Nancy Houssels, we look to the future with pride and enthusiasm. We are grateful to those who helped us achieve this outstanding milestone.”
Carmina Burana will bring this notable season to a rousing close on May 20, 21, and 22, 2022. Choreographed by Nicolo Fonte, this dramatic and dynamic theatre experience will be brought to life by Members of the Las Vegas Philharmonic led by Maestro Donato Cabrera, as well as Members of the Las Vegas Master Singers. Audiences may remember Fonte’s Bolero, performed by NBT in February 2019, as well as his World Premiere for the Company entitled Crane/ing, performed in February 2020.
