LETS GET OFF ON THE WRONG FOOT, and START 12 MINUTES LATE WITH NO AUDIO !
LATE, LOUD AND DARK... THE THREE BIG NEGATIVES, IT SEEMS ENDLESS
The Broadway Divas, part of the New York Stage and Beyond Series which plays at UNLV's Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall came off like a high school production. (THIS MAY NOT BE FAIR TO HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTIONS)
Great irony in writing, at this moment as I am working at home on my new computer for the first time and always multi tasking I fire up the cable tv channel 940 classical channel to accompany my writing and what is on Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. This makes the music I am about to write about most insignificant ! AMAZING IRONY !
Anyway at 812 (12 minutes late) three broadway babes come out for their opening number to what is pretty much no audio,...... to her credit (or not) a stage technician comes on stage to interrupt the chaos, makes some mike changes and we do a makeover. AMAZING ! What happened to rehersal and sound checks, I guess my presence as an audience ticket buying member who arrived on time was not important to this circus. What kind of grade will this get ?
Yah there was indeed a show at "their" schedule and "their vaules".
3 divas, there were supposed to be four, did some semi popular broadway songs semi well.
I think they could all sing, all too loud, too dark and too late. I thought Kate Baldwin was quite good, production wise I thought they made it up as they went along. My colleauge at the local paper gave them and A....not me. Then again he probably stayed for the whole show. You know what intermission is don't you, an opportunity to leave ! I did.
Terribly offensive 61 D- barely passing.
A side show note last week prior to the dance show reviewed earlier, a lecture at the Las Vegas art Museum allegedly at 7....they were 8 minutes late with my leaving at 730 for the next event I get screwed again. As I went to the door, a staff member rudely interrupted our conversation with something more important to do. Gosh I thought I was a dues paying member of the Las Vegas Art Museum who had a paid membership, a reservation and wanted to buy a ticket, obviously issues not important to them!
Anyway a lecture on art came off to an audience that included parents pushing in a baby carriage and the usual slamming of doors with late arrivals. Nobody cares, I would like to have heard the lecture ? Lets give this one a D 65 for variables not the lecture, they all are in it together.
