Yet another winner.
This long running Las Vegas afternoon show began at the Sands, then the Stratosphere and now twice a day at 2 and 4 every day at the Union Plaza. The Plaza has new 0wners and bought this show for what is probably a tourist crowd, don't leave me out I am a local they bought it for me too.
Played a lot of poker at this facility 20 years ago, dined, experienced and I have now returned to the Plaza do to this show and this writing assignment. Glad I did ! Everyone was most pleasant and helpful and they even threw in the buffet package, it was all fine and very reasonably priced.
The show itself was not cheaply done, it was first class. I have seen it through the years and the theme is the same, with current updates. It is a variety 6 showgirls who did four costumed numbers, (some nice T & A), a German magacian who was ok, a host with a clever dog act and one of the greatest comedians in history, BIG JOHN MICKLESON (the man with the barbacue). I have always loved Big John and his stihk and he is current, full of enthusiasm with his over the top personna. You must see this show and I will again and again, but Big John has one bit with Japanese TV doing classic American icons in tongue. This is really super stuff to hear John Wayne and Jackie Gleason in Japanese. Seeing Big John again I said to myself who are your top standup guys of all time? Red Skelton, Bob Hope, George Carlin, Stephen Wright and......... Big John is in this class!
What a day this made for me, made me feel good. Nice crowd in this historic downtown theatre where they did NUDES ON ICE and where WAYNE NEWTON once did five shows a day.
With Dick Feeney's name on this,..... that makes it first class, the theatre looked good with maitre de seating, show ran 83 minutes with over 20 for Big John.
My job is to revue but include my personal endorsement for this one.
