CROWN BOXING

Despite the many boxing cards every year in Nevada, very few are promoting and even fewer are successful. That's why I was very pleased to see the Frank Luca, Crown Boxing card at the Orleans Mardi Gras Ballroom become an early sellout. I am for everybody and making a go of any boxing card is always a challenge at any level, the basics of fighter ability, fighter reliability, travel, marketability, promotion and credibilty are enormous and Luca has been working at it for two years now at the Orleans....(everybodys favorite site).

Crown boxing has a nice website, like this one and you can get follow up boxing schedules here there or the Nevada State Athletic Commission site, Crown next.... March 7 at the Orleans.

Now the boxing....damn near everybody wants to see knockouts....not me ! ! ! I like even contests in any sport with some doubt about the outcome...the more doubt the better and with boxings history of controversial decisions we can get that a lot...maybe not so much in Nevada where the best referees and judges work daily.

Main event (alleged heavyweight championship) Carlos Barnett 95-92, 94-93, 93-94 over Willie Chapman, here is a doubt about the outcomefight, closely scored and a good test. I, for 25 years have not used the call letters of any boxing sanctioning body and never will, why give note to these crooks, there are so many that they are useless. At one time I did some research and found 21 sanctioners with 14 weight classes....You do the math ! ! I am sure there are more now so Barnett is one of 224 champions or so.....pay the fee be a champ, titles are completely 100 useless ! It would be interesting to know how many of the fans Friday night bought a ticket solely because they wanted to see a championship fight.....I propose to you.........NONE !

Local UNLV basketball star Kaspars Kambala and Alvaro Morales fought to a majority draw, Kambala is working with Hall of Famer Richard Steele which gives him some edge, interesting to follow the progress here. Brain Battlease unanimous decision in four over Tomas Bremal, Calvin Rooks and DeMark Scott, a four round heavyweight draw and Layla McCarter unanimous decision over Cindy Serrano. Have seen McCarter before, she is Luca's house fighter and a first class athlete and better yet a first class person.

Good for you Frank, lets do it again soon and often, a press row table for us writers would be helpful with assigned seats, Thanks.
