It is simply world class ballet !
The Nevada Ballet Theatre has very simply risen to World Class....it is that simple ! Certainly I am opinionated, certainly I am critical, certainly I am prejudiced, certainly I look for and notice flaws and certainly I am correct about the Nevada Ballet Theatre's quality level.
For 25 years I have enjoyed this companys work, they have grown, improved and produce a world class show every time out....Cinderella was no different.
I love the coordination of dance and music (they call it choreography).....and when it comes to together in a perfect fashion we have magic. NBT has always had a great perfect look to it....costumes, lighting, storyline, dancing and the creative new look choreography....that's what I got Sunday from Cinderella. I was thinking yesterday, when is the last time I saw a dancer fall......can't remember (and that would not be the end of the earth) ...it happens...it didn't happen Sunday!
At this level I know the excellence with a twist I am going to get with NBT and they produce every time out ! Example.....Cincerella pulls a pot off the fire and it is smoking.....what a minute detail, but yet inserted to give the big picture a little something extra ! This the order of attention to detail and creative newness to the art that puts a production over the top. There are lots of shows and events to see in Las Vegas at a quality level....none any better than this.
Cinderella, an old story with hall of fame music by Prokofiev and this version in six performances (all sold out) at UNLV'S Judy Baley theatre. I have always loved this venue and may be saying goodbye to it to the new downtown venue.....it may be bigger but will not be better. What a great dancer Zeb Nole is, and was as the prince....his wife Racheal Hummel-Nole as Cinderella did not hurt this performance either.
NBT into a bad habit of two intermissions.....you know what intermission is right...AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE ! That is about the only negative. I may suggest the continued reinforcement of audience education, no cells, no video texts, no late seating, no children and controlled applause....Sunday afternoon they applauded darkness and lighting and everything inbetween....I am all for approval but clapping on every jump was overboard.
Current season for Las Vegas ballet over....onto the next one...get them tickets early http://www.nevadaballet.com/ Giselle- Balanchine-Nutcracker-Showcase-Masters-Newworks among the menu.
All shows graded on the standard Sammy Davis Jr. with one point lost for each minute late...njot late here. 101 A+
