SOME KIND OF SATURDAY

by Ed Bruce Edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

I started my day with 5 hours of live poker at the Mirage where they no longer write free buffets for players, however some nice folks work there and I had my best day of 2008....A 98.

The highlite of the day came next at the Winchester Cultural Center with the Youth Camerata Chamber Players ! No way this could have been better (I take that back, they could have started on time) anyway 30 youthish players highlighted by Mary Genevieve White, Leah Wods and Lindsay Lamb playing the violin ! I know what I like and this is it ! Beautiful high school girls playing the violin (well), they did Vivaldi, Kreisler (Perlman's favorite), Beethoven, and Saint-aens......I just closed my eyes and relished. Marvolous selection of great music ! Las Vegas is doing a magnificent job of teaching the classics, thank you Oscar Carescia and thank you Winchester Center for this first class event and all those you do past, present and future !

Next up would have been this world class boxing match at the MGM but they no longer credential me and while I still enjoy boxing, getting to, getting in and out and tolerating the rude behavior of their staff has pushed me to Pay Per View.....and now PPV was free at the Station Casinos poker room.....sweet.... a great boxing event that their promoters did not wish me to see and promote.....I saw it anyway and they did only 55% capacity, maybe a correlation exhists !

Left for Primm Nevada Star of the Desert Showroom and Ringo Starr and his All Star Band !
I have now seen half of the Beattles but this was just noise. Amazingly they started on time and 8000 people had a good time....I like that....I did not have a good time ! The worlds two greatest composers thought Ringo should be their best choice for the Worlds greatest band and they probably were right for the time and music at hand then....then when it did not overpower the lyrics ! Not today, it was just noise from people and music I do not know and will not ever know....8000 seemed to enjoy this noise. The set evidentally included music from four "stars" I do not know, nor want to.

Ringo may have done (A little Help From my Friends) and (Yellow Submere) but I was not there to hear it.

The Star of the Desert Arena 38 miles from the Palace Station is a great arena with pretty good booking for the masses....Ringo is my age and we have separated ! Thanks to Ringo for his peace theme and for playing here to lots of folks who enjoyed it, I did not !

85 B for being a PRO

Raced back to the Planet Hollywood for Gordie Brown ! This was no picnic either ......how we have digressed. Brown among the worlds great singer-impressionists has fallen to a one man show with bad audio and a loss of interest. He still works hard but is at the end of a short run giving away tickets to blood donors (not a bad thing).

Brown still one of the best busts his ass but is closing to open for Celine's world tour and then reopen on the strip with live backup music.

This is disappointing because Brown did not approach the standard he set for himself....I still think he is one clever son of a bitch and wait the return ! Too much interaction with and in the audience....none is the proper amount.
