DON MCLEAN-AMERICAN PIE

by ed bruce edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS ! ! !

The great american songwriter, with a 40 year record to prove it.

Don Mclean born in New Rochelle, New York October 2, 1945 (my age) interested in music at age 5, high school guitar player, college at Iona and Villanova, climbed the ladder, toured the world for 40 years and wrote the great American song.......and others.

I have seen this before and at 63 Mclean still at the peak of his powers at the Texas Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas..........the end of another "world tour"....he just sold out the Royal Albert Hall.

Nice guy, great songwriter, .......listen to the lyrics....voice still in great shape and he can play !
3 guitars and a drummer.....what a novel idea....they told the Beattles it would not work....of course they could write lyrics too.....Mclean had a piano player....thats it. SO refreshing to see 2000 people singing American Pie.....twice ......needless to say we all knew the words. Nice to finish this 90 minute set....with Vincent.....another masterpiece constructed after another of my heros......always thought they should have played that one non stop at the Van Gough art exhibition in L A when they had 32 pieces on display !

American Pie with the great history of Buddy Holly...... 2 February 1959 Surf Ballroom, Clear Lake, Iowa.....only 200 miles from my home town Verdigre, Nebraska....Surf Ballroom still stands and they do a reunion every year....the 50th is just 76 days away and we are going this year....I can remember 2 February 1959 like yesterday.....it was 31 degrees below zero, beautiful clear sunny sky, I was carrying the Omaha World Herald with this story on the cover......just forever with this story for me. Mclean started on time the big issue for me every day !

Thanks to the Stations Casino for bring in Mclean every now and then....time is short....the legend lives.

Just 105 A+ for me
