Lots of symphonys to be heard so little time....I got a bunch of them today !
Chamber music to start with.....Glenwillow String Trio at the Reed Whipple community center downtown Las Vegas.....cello, violin and viola.....three Las Vegas Philharmonic players.....one hour....on time, punch and cookies, informal....great music...free .....again started right on time....more than can be said for the LV Phil !
A+ 100....could not have been better !
Las Vegas Philharmonic did not start on time ....five minutes late...26 minute intermisssion other than that....... sensational !
Conducter David Itkin did a 17 minute pre game lecture with saxophonist Eugene Rousseau...great stories and info here prior to the concert.
First Mendelssohn.....The Herbrides.....lovely stuff with some play by play prio to and in concert !
Second Tomasi with Rousseau in two movements...Itkin called Rousseau the greatest saxophone player in history and we would have no reason to doubt that after his brief 15 performance here.
Then we had that damn 26 minute intermission....only one video machin that I saw from the balcony and no cell phones ....we did have the usual untimed applause between movements...I guess its endless !
Finally Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov....4 movements 44 minutes....very nice, highlighted by DeAnn Letourneau, solo violin in each movement....striking familiar theme....loved it...a tad long. No encore !
If they could start on time they could get a better score....love the top row of the balcony for sound, panorama and limited traffic.....perfect sound in Ham Hall on UNLV campus as always !
