DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS !
WOW AM I PROUD TO LIVE IN A CITY THAT HAS THIS !
Tonight three choice pieces of music..... Mozart, Paganini and Shostakovich !
This slice of heaven started with conductor David Itkin's pre concert talk 717 to 736....19 minutes of great info about tonights three selections....don't understand how three quarters of the crowd could miss this....as I trudge along in my thrist for knowledge and show information....THIS IS THE ANSWER....THANKS DAVID !
Mozart overture to Don Giovanni.....how could anything Mozart did be bad ? 46 strings....lovely stuff.
Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840).....nice and old.....Violin Concerto #1 soloist Shannon Lee...16 years old....wonderful....she seemed somewhat rigid and mechanical without personality but the chords were lovely and flawless. Itkin said that established players do not perform this piece....its left to the youth....THE MOST DIFFICULT VIOLIN CONCERTO TO PLAY IN HISTORY. SHANNON YOU ARE NOW ONE OF MY HEROES.....thank you for your genius and hopefully long career. I sat center 14th row for the first half...absolutely perfect....great attentive audience here...almost a full house.
At halftime I moved to the last row of the balcony for the Shostakovich 5th onslaught....another great move on my part and a great look at the unity of the bows....77 pieces here...two harps....just a miracouous compostion of all the elements....I have heard this one before on the same night as Beethovens 5th. Seemed almost perfect to me....I know what I like and I liked all of this. A couple of video texters in the balcony along with a suckling mother and 3 year old and a 6 year old....they find me....but prayers are alswered...... she left 8 minutes into the second half.....what would her approach to the evening be and where was the father to this liter...better yet how did they get in ? Just me I guess....I came to hear Shannon Lee !
Pre game 3 minutes late....concert 2 minutes late....absolutely perfect sound in the Ham Hall on UNLV Campus....if you miss any of this you are the loser.....May 5th next 895 2787
Next years schedule released to include my favorite...Tchiakovskys violin concerto....hope I live to fall.
Concluded a great evening by racing to the Fremont Experience to again view American Pie on the overhead video....started on time to the second.
95 A for the Philharmonic they lose the 5 for late.
