THE LION KING

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

Before we start, we must start....it was 12 minutes late...inexcusable....nothing should be late....especially this ! All my reviews lose one point for every minute late...so the King starts with and 88...before kickoff !

That said it was as good a show as you want to see...recommended to the world !

This Disney collaboration, movie, play, touring production has been around the world twice and fortunately for us in Las Vegas it has landed at Mandalay Bay for an indefinite run. The enormity of this thing is all impressive with dozens of costumed animals that sing, it has fantastic sound, and its an all pro production with everyone on cue.

This a multi million dollar deal and on evidence nothing has been left out.....the damn thing even has an intermission (intermission always an invitation to leave....NOBODY DID HERE) INTERMISSION also a go at this venue for Mama Mia...obviously they can get away with it....the 4pm show Saturday went til 628...don't forget the 12 minute delay at the start....its an afternoon...but worth whatever price you pay or whatever time you give it ! This like the Phantom gives me great comfort knowing I am 6 miles from the show and go sleep every night knowing how close it is and I can see it anytime....(pretty much sold out). We were in the last row downstairs...perfect seats...great audio....nice depth perception...this is a production like the Phantom where upon future visits you should move around and get different looks. With the committment here one can make plans and do that. The production is so big the program credits included a flyer noting that Simba and Gazelle Wheel would be played by someone other than the regular performer ! So what ! Here is one of those deals where the production is good and so well done and so deep in rotating talent that one would have no idea who is in or out. I particularily liked this Simba !

I love animals and these are so well portrayed they appear so perfect in their detail....I thing our distance from the stage helped the reality factor ! Upne review the elephant was perfect, the giraffes perfect, the hyenas fabulous, the cheetah wonderful and of course the waving grass of the planes....I especially liked the tigers in the grass sequence....its all done to a live orchestra multi times a week...plan ahead and go. This does not need my endorsement and the review only gives you an opinion....here the track record speaks for itself and this production is as good as anything anyone would see anywhere !

12 minutes late 88 B+
