ANNIE GET YOUR GUN

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

ST GEORGE MUSICAL THEATRE........ 122 MILES UP THE FREEWAY FROM LAS VEGAS

A new theatre company to me anyway....pretty much community theatre level...set in the middle of two world class venues ...TUACHAN AND THE UTAH SKAESPEARE FESTIVAL !
Hard to compete with this neighborhood quality of production....they tried !

First ...when you grab some Irving Berlin music like this it is a slice of heaven to start with so all you have to do is give a touch of credit to the composer and you have a winner...they did. Start with ANNIE.... Tamari Dunbar....second to none in her role here...worth the trip alone...she could sing, she could act and dance and she looked good doing it all....Frank Butler was no Howard Keel...but who is, so he passed.

A nice community level show with flaws usally found in this level....production, cues, props, timing....they started on time with mostly local actors who gave a good effort....I always liked Sitting Bull....this one was ok with room to work on his acting. Lots of fine costumes...some decent dance numbers...a great train set and Anything You Can DO I Can Do Better a near show stopper. Lots to tough production challenges in this play... shooting scenes, different sets and continuity. My problem is I have set the bar so high with my most recent show revue....the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE production of Romeo and Juliet at Dorthey Chandler Pavilion and I know I can't get that level everywhere but it does set a perfect standard.

This goes for a month www.sgmt.org....435 669 3087

This recommended to the world for what it was....B+ 88
