ANOTHER CHAPTER IN A GREAT LAS VEGAS MUSICAL WEEKEND !
SMOTHERS BROTHERS HAD SOME...PIANO CONCERT HISTORICA HAD SOME AND THE ORGAN CONCERT HAD LOTS.
THIS AT UNLV'S HAM HALL HAD THE BIGGEST TURNOUT AND PERFORMED ON THE GREATEST SCALE.
All music to taste and while this was not to my special taste like all the others it was well played, well arranged and perfectly narrated by music director Ricard McGee, one of my heroes for his history, his personality, his professionalism, his organization, his conducting and his over all get it done theme for music.
GUY MOVIES the outline here and had it been my choice I would have selected almost all different pieces, altho I did learn and have some new experiences. The Pink Panther by Mancini my only prefered selection.
I am still in the anti vocal group singing theme and unless the Mills Brothers are going to resurface I prefer solos....however the Desert Chorale and its 47 pieces were almost tolerable with the orchestra. They did five vocals and at least did not overwhelm the strings. Pops ....lots of horns and more modern than my preferable classics and...... very well presented here.
I made the terrible mistake this morning of looking up the difference between a band and an orchestra....its very complex but the bottom line is that there are no strings in a band...anyway we had strings here and when you have strings I am the ultimate patron to include all the variables.
Next season September 25 Ham Hall...October 25 Ham Hall...more...mark your calendar.
Pops soliciting your support...development@nevadapops.org... or media@nevadapops.org....or 254 6774...here is a great place to spend your cash.
STARTED ON TIME...allowing for the scoring of the event to at least start at 100 (everything losses one point for every minute late)...all shows judged on the standard..... Sammy Davis Jr.
96 A
recommended to the world...............not influenced by my personal distaste of the music !
