LYRICS

BY ED BRUCE edbrucevegas@yahoo.com

UNLV PRESENTS....TONY AWARD-WINNING HITS FROM BROADWAY'S GREATEST HITS...sort of !

This was the last of UNLV'S New York Stage Series at Ham Hall. It was sensational !

It was late...8 minutes...40 minutes of songs...a real 15 minute intermission and 45 more minutes of songs and hit the road.

The real outstanding factors here...THE PERFECT HAM HALL SOUND...BRILLIANT TALENT AND LYRICS. I would have selected many different songs but the choices from many Broadway musicals were fine with extremely well performed vocals and back up.

James Barbour....Lauren Kennedy...Julia Murney...no dead weight here...each capable of their own solo concert...all with lenghty Broadway show histories and perfectly backed up by Mark Harman, musical director and pianist. I just loved the vocals...the lyrics and the supporting backup....piano...drums (not too loud)...strings (guitar and bass)...and soft horns ! They must have practiced and or have been naturally talented at what they do...both me thinks.

The music selection from really second level Broadway tunes...some new lyrics for me and the really really old contempoary crowd I seem to gather with. I left wanting more and maybe more popular Broadway hits...all the performers gave histories on each song...a factor especially appealing for the open mind like mine !

Thank you to UNLV, the staff and to Ham Hall for being there for me for 27 years...lets hope I live long enough to run through another season of this quality entertainment.
