The College of Southern Nevada Fine Arts Department periodically presents dance programs to the public, most are quite good, I go in with a positive attitude to an already proven entity.
More of the same! They started on time but were unable on Saturday afternoon to provide their usual refreshments after the show, altho nice and advertised this will not grade them down.
This was the 9th annual Dance in the Desert Festival, with an opportunity to share the art form with the community and colleagues. Three shows here with a minor overlap in pieces, on Saturday at the 2 pm show I got 11 pieces all generally danced well with some creative moves. Bernard Gaddis and Agnes Roux set me on fire with a terrifically athletic "pairs" danced to Jean'Francois Houle. Sensational.
Super show, nice crowd, some out of town choreographers started on time, maybe 85 minutes, maybe 91 A-. Thank you.
Next on Saturday.... two old curmudgeonss drove 93 miles to Laughlin Nevada for an alleged boxing card. Not much good here........ starting 26 minutes late, four matches, headliner 11 pounds overweight, a couple of fair fights. D- 61 on the precipice of failure. The people were nice and I like this reservation casino in Southern Nevada. The poker room was conveniently close to the boxing arena !
Not to stay down long..... Sunday afteroon at the Clark County Library... Andrew Lloyd Webber Revisited! How could they screw this up? They didn't. Started on time, 2pm matinee, two guys, two girls one piano, great lyrics, nice voices, costumes, some choreography, mostly solos, one unnecessary intermission.
Musical director and pianist Greg Bosler took these four fine voices and delivered a lovely show. This is pretty much like doing the Beatles, great premise, great songbook, just do it. Personally Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Sunset Boulevard are not my favorites, but Cats, The Phantom and Joseph are. This was a lovely afternoon treat from the Performing Arts society of ....Nevadas Brown Bag Concerts. No trouble understanding the lyrics here!
Oh Boy 93 an A. Thanks
