Started on time, 10 minute intermission was 15, pardonable.
So how could I have missed this for almost 40 years? The cover of an excellent program had Neil Simon, Bob Fosse and Cy Coleman on it, pretty good starting lineup. I had not seen the musical or the movie (1969) Shirley Maclaine and Sammy Davis Jr., what the hell is wrong with me. Worse yet Las Vegas Review journal ADV gave it a D-......not me.
Many of the Las Vegas libraries have lovely theatres where community plays live, if not thrive, ...this is true for the Summerlin Library theatre. Musical Actors Theatre produced this with a cast of 30, 19 piece orchestra, lot of nice dance and some memorable songs..Too Many Tomorrows, If My Friends Could See Me Now, and Hey Big Spender. If all this was not enought they topped it off the great voice of Gary Colombo singing the finale. Charity, who had more lines than Richard ll, was played by B. Noelle Rowe who gave me an A+ effort. Colossal load to be on stage for over two hours and she made it totally believable. Maybe the best thing
about this was they told the story so I could understand it.
Nice costumes and costume changes (for 30) what a job and expense... and you could see this for maybe $20. This theatre had spotlights on the side which seemed odd to me and they were not always perfect, nor were some of the technical aspects, but this is not Cats on Broadway and the great live theatre element was all pluses for me.
After sleeping on it A- 91 and I still think I am extremely harsh but I like it and I am the one I care most about! Shorty after writing this review I read a second scathing negative response to this show and I respect all opinions but also mine and my right to disagree and I do. Again this was not Our Town at the Utah Shakespeare festival, however it was live theatre, good effort, story well told and I liked it. Still A- 91.
